January 20, 05 What can be better then ice climbing when it is warm. That was my motivating factor. Partnerless due to people doubting the weather, I decided to go and check out the Responsible Family Man, via the Dribbles to the alternative approach. Both the Dribbles and the Responsible Family Man were in wonderful condition. It was eleven thirty when I toped out on the R.F.M and I did not have to be back until four. I was in the zone, why stop there? Fourty meters of 5.7 mixed rock put me on top, standing in a gully with another pitch looking me right in the eyes. Thirty meters of 5.6 rock put me on top of yet another cliff band. It was the end of the crux climbing. However I could not come to grips with turning around there. I new this mountain would top out somewhere above me. I scurried out of the gully and gained the ridge on the right. Another five hundred meters of fourth class and schlogging put me on the top (follow the goats). I could see every mountain range with in three hours drive of Bozeman. It was one of the most powerful moments I have ever had in Hyalite. The rappeling was spicy only because I had no gear to leave only cord, I ended up harvesting a tree and burying it horizontal to the fall line and it was pretty good. However bring a standard Hyalite rack with leaver pins. I really hope some one will repeat this all the way to the top. I saw no evidence on top of the last two rock pitches I can only assume it had not been done before. Responsible Family Man now goes all the way to the TOP at WI 5, 5.7 mixed. Have fun - it's a full day, whit
