Rocky Mtn Front Ice

Any one been up to the Rocky Mtn Front This year climbing? Wondering about Augusta/Choteau area. There does not seem to be a place for these climbs or this area on this website, but if anyone has any ice or road conditions reports for this area and wants to share that would be great. I know someone has been there..................

Thanks Jamie

I was just up there and I didnt go to any previously climbed stuff so I can't report on that., kinda just looking for some new stuff and all the roads into the mountains were clear, but some were icy because it rained on Wednesday.   A few drifts but nothing that would stop a suby.  We found 2 new climbs and they were both solidly in, the ice was somewhat brittle with big chuncks coming off when we climbed.  There was hardly any snow on the approaches.  One was about ten miles up the road to Teton pass on the left as you are heading into the mountains in a ravine, its about 120 - 140 ft with 3 pitches of WI3 maybe.  If you go there, approach on climbers left the right gets closed out by gnar cliffs and rockfall from above.    The other was in Dupuyer up the swift dam road you go all the way to the dam and drive up to the lake on a kind of rough road and you can see the big icefall about a mile up the mountain to the right.  Its about 60 ft of WI3 and has a tree to rappel off the top.  We are going to put some photos together with some posts after we find a few more to put up as well.  It was also REALLY windy, like hard to stand so anything with snow is pretty sketch.

this is the first one, we called it Big Cheese after the guy that told us there was no ice here, from the road we saw it from.

I guess you mean the road to the ski area? But not ear mtn road?

I believe that one in Depuyer has been climbed lots, I believe it is even in the old Brunckhorst pamphlet and maybe the old guide maybe? or something similar. Not sure about the one on the pass road, but my bet is that Dave or Elton or one of those guys in GF has climbed all this stuff. They have been kicking around up there for a while. Hopefully this post will inspire him or someone in that community to post some more info or give us some history. It is always windy on the front. Good to see people coming to check it out.
