The last weekend of Hyalite 3/27/11

Today was one of the best final weekends I've had in Hyalite.  The day started out with a hangover contributed to the "Dirt Bag Ball."  Rusty Willis picked me up at my house and we hiked up to the Bingo Cave.  Our goal for the day was to climb as much as possible.  We got lucky,  Bingo World was touching.  So, we climbed it.

While on lead, there was a big "wump," sound as my tool pierced the ice.  I was right where the rock meets the ice.  There was an unsettling feeling in my stomach after hearing the noise echo off the cave wall.  I noticed there was a nice fracture line directly above my tool.  I thought I was going airborne but the pillar stayed vertical.  I reached out clipped the final bolt of Bull Dog World, took a big sigh of relief and proceeded to get pumped silly the rest of the way to top.

After Rusty cleaned this sketchy beast, he put the draws up on Bull Dog World with style.  There must have been something in the air because he too was a sender.  Watching him pull off a figure four and then a figure nine through the roof was bad a_s.  I was too pumped from the climb before to be able to follow in his foot steps.  Maybe next time.

The next plan of action was Come and Get It.  We didn't end up climbing this because from below the ice looked a bit detached and smaller in size from last weekend.  So, we walked over to Elevator Shaft.

Wanting more, we started heading over to GI to go climb the mix climbs.  We ran into Marco on the trail and invited him along.  The hike up to GI was exhausting.  The mix climbing was even more exhausting.

It feels good to know we have such an  amazing place as our stomping grounds.  I hope everyone else also enjoys their last few days in Hyalite.

Cheers,
