Finley Creek Conditions 2011/12

Hiked up Finley today 11/17 with Conor D. Just a couple inches of new snow on the ground, making the road a bit slippery in some sections and the trail quick for travel.  Everything seems to be coming in pretty nicely so far. Ended up drytooling on Mule Palace for the most part, as things were thin enough in sections to make it worth the wait for us.

Jesse S. and I made it up to Finley today.  We climbed Graineater and Weedeater.  We were able to sink 16cm screws into Graineater no problem, and we simul-soloed Weedeater while tagging a rope.  However Weedeater was equally as thick and ice screws would have sunk well.  Someone cut the webbing at all the belay stations on Weedeater, so we used Jesse's personal anchor and setup a new anchor on a tree on the left side at the top of the climb.  It's positioned nicely and provides a pretty clear and direct route for rappelling.  We didn't leave a carabiner or a link and it could use some additional webbing to back it up.

Included is a picture of Graineater from today and one from last season.  There's plenty of growing to do, but it's definitely capable of some climbing without having to worry that it won't form properly for the rest of the season.  Foxes Corner is not in.
