Climbed Elevator Shaft on Sunday 2/26, beautiful day and conditions. Met some fellas who approached and bailed because it appeared hollow. "See-through-hollow" were their words. Actually, it was in great shape and had thick ice the whole way. Plenty of depth for placements and protection.
The main column did have some spots where you could see flowing water, but the ice was still at least 3-5 inches thick. The ice was just very clear in those spots and to the sides it was thick and solid. Don't be afraid to get up close and check conditions, things aren't always as they appear.
