who likes to hike?

has anyone ever hiked/skied in to climb calamity falls or sentinal falls on the west fork of rock creek? Do they even form ice falls? (The road is still closed in the winters, right?) Any info on this area would be appreciated...thanks a bunch! Happy climbing, katie

Your question must stem from the labeled falls on the USGS topo map for that area. Truth be told those "falls" are merely little cascades that don't amount to much for ice cllimbing. The road opens some time in the month of april, but may not be fully passable until later. If you haven't already, take a look at the book "Winter Dance" (should be in any gear shop around here) for more beta on the potential ice climbing in the area.

joel, i do have winter dance and have hiked in the red lodge area a lot in the summer (i'm from billings, too!) but i had no idea what winter ice conditions are up there...Thank You for confirming my assumption. Happy Climbing to you, katie
