Let's find some ice! Anyone interested in doing some local stuff, or far away like Waterton, Cody or even Beartooth region, let me know. There's some new stuff I found last year that I'd like to attempt a first on, just need some adventure- type climbers. I would like to get back into ice, not much climbing last year due to limited ice climbers in missoula. I'd rather have a local partner with whom to travel with and train with.

Hey Amy,   Long time, no see.  We are planning some early season climbing in GNP he weekend after turkey day  -- maybe the Mt. Brown gullies or Snyder Basin.

I've not been to Mission Falls for a couple of years (heading to Canuckistan instead) but we ought to check it out this season.

Drop me a note if u r interested.  Later,   Jim

good to hear from you Jim.  I'll check my calendar and I think we should finally get together for some ice too.  Interested in anything I mentioned in my topic (cody, waterton)?  Is your phone # the same?

hey amy,

I'm generally free in the afternoon and on most weekends!  give me a call if you need some company~ 406-214-6616.  i'm game for just about anything....

also, if you want to train, i can sponsor anyone into the UM gym!  it's not ice, but it's better than nothing!

Hey Amy and Jim and other missoulians- Great to hear there's some missoulias looking to get out this winter.  I'm a second year grad student and am always looking for more ice partners here in missoula. I was just up in GNP checking out  the ice last weekend. Mt. Brown's not in yet but getting close and avalanche lake needs a few weeks. I'm going to be up that way for the turkey holiday if anyone wants to climb up there?  I'm also planning a ski/climbing trip to canada Jan 3- Jan 23 if anyones interested in meet up. I'm also heading to the desert (indian creek) Oct 30-Nov 6th- There's always room for more if anyone wants a ride.

Hey Ashley, its John down in Colorado...just wanteed to let you know I'll be up around the Flathead/R MTN front for the turkey holiday as well, so we should try and catch up...cheers everyone...the climbing here has been fantastic, so anyone making the trip...

John, Hey it's good to hear you are coming back for a visit! I'm not sure if you have been talking to anyone here in town but Sean Pasco, Robin, Scott D., Jesse, and I climbed the N.Face of Borah a couple of weeks ago! It was great snow and AI up to that gully, and good WI 2+ for a couple of rope lengths, Super fun climbing I wish you could have been there! Thanks for planting that seed in all of our heads to do that climb!  Ashley, I might be down for a turkey day adventure to Mt. Brown if you are still intrested. There is also talk of heading to Utah for climbing? Interests?

Pray for snow!

Hey John and BBrunsvold (I didn't catch your name?) I'm definitely going to be in GNP over the turkey holiday. I'm guessing mt. brown will be in if anyone wants to climb.  The photo below is avalanch lake last week. my number 406-599-4357

John how's life down in CO?  Are you in school?

Ashley- you asked what the climbs were.  The pig, monument, and memorandum.  No ice is present there now.  Only stuff is up by little matterhorn.

Amy,     We went up the right hand gulley on Brown today, climbed over 1,400 feet off the valley floor to just under 5,000 and the ice started around 5,500.  We could see it above us but my partner had a stomach bug & barfed, so we did a 180 and headed down.  With a little cold weather, it will be in soon.  There were some good formations up above us.
I do want to climb in the Snyder basin this fall before the snow flies.  Based on what I saw today I am going to head in there in the next 2-3 weeks if we get some cold weather.  Drop me a note if you want to get in there before the snow files.
Later,   Jim

Temps are holding and the ice is forming.  I was up at Avalanche Lake last friday and it was still needing more time.  Most likely we will be climbing the gullies on Mt. Brown on Saturday and will update conditions afterwards... Snow line is at the 5500 ft level.  We had heavy winds over the weekend along with high preassure and cold tems over the last few days.  WIND LOADING has occured at the higher elevations. Be safe.
