Access up East Rosebud Canyon?

I'm trying to find out how the access is up East Rosebud in the winter. Is the road typically plowed? How far? Is it 4WD only? If you've been up there lately, how is it now? (Thanks in advance for any info!) Alex

Alex, The road is NOT plowed - ever. It is a very popular road though, and is frequently punched open. Typically there might be some drifts immediately past the "Phantom Lake" trail head about a mile before the lake. There are also drifts that form in one spot about half way between the bridge at the outlet and the F.S. trailhead. Otherwise, it is usually pretty straightforward. Considering the lack of snow recently, I would bet it is just fine all the way. Check forecast and the Red Lodge ski reports for daily snow fall. They tend to get all their snow in big dumps - particularly later in the season - so it would be those days when the road is sketchy. Hope it helps. Cheers, JoJo

Alex, The road is passable all the way to the Alpine trailhead. I drove it out there on Fri. in my AWD, low clearance Subaru (I have Blizzaks). There isn't really much snow on the ground out there, but there are a few spots with drifts on the road. Should be no problem to get out there. Garrett
