Weedeater 2/15/08

Ondi Crino and I went out to Finley on Sunday for a beautiful day of ice climbing.  We had the whole canyon to ourselves, as is usual for Missoula ice....  Conditions were great on Weedeater, with sinker ice in the morning and reasonably warm temps by early afternoon.  I really should've brought a machete up the climb to help cut down some of the alders that were choking out the route!

I'd never done this climb and would love to do it again.  There's multiple variations which change the feel of the climb quite a bit.  I don't know what it's rated, but it felt WI4ish in a few parts.

here's Ondi rappelling the start of the climb.  This little section is surprisingly steep.

Finishing up the climb on rolling WI2/3....

and a photo of graineater, which might not even come back this year.  :(

Thing in between looked fat as well as the curtain for Mule Palace.  Keep your eyes peeled for bobcat tracks which crossed the trail a few times, as well as snowshoe hare.

cheers!
