Ross Pk

Submitted by jdj on Sat, 05/10/2008 - 19:49

I skied the banana gully on Ross Fri. Ski in is grim but wouldn't be bad with a hard freeze. The approach to the top was good step kicking and the skiing was powder sluffs in full winter conditions. Certainly worth doing for another couple weeks.

Skiing Beehive 5/8

Submitted by JoshuaGage on Fri, 05/09/2008 - 11:27

Ryan Minton and I skied in Beehive on Thursday, 5/9... we skied a southwest facing chute that was holding some pretty good snow... there was a breakable crust on the bootpack up that we were worried would produce poor skiing conditions...

the skiing was actually quite nice on the decent... we triggered a couple sluffy but wet slides on the way down..

Gallatin Peak Saturday

Submitted by kartch on Fri, 05/09/2008 - 08:48

Is anyone interested in climbing and skiing Gallatin Pk tomorrow (May 10)? I want to get in and out early - really early. I've got to be back to take the wife out for Mother's Day. I'm interested in shorter objectives if this seems unreasonable. PM or call Jason 435-590-1599. Thanks.

Mission Creek steep skiing

Submitted by kephoto on Sun, 04/20/2008 - 21:28

Here is a short video from some of the spring skiing that has been happening up Mission Creek. All of the couloirs were skiing great earlier but the Submission couloir was an exceptional highlight.

Enjoy

Slushman's

Submitted by pussboat on Tue, 01/29/2008 - 22:41

Dawn patrolled slushman's two days ago. Major wind events formed a breakable crust about 10 cm thick. we found a layer that sheared easily about 17 or so inches down on an eastern aspect, the north facing slopes were wicked wind loaded. Be safe, it's been a rough season in the B/C this year.

History Rock Trail skiing

Submitted by PKnight on Thu, 01/10/2008 - 17:29

History Rock Trail in Hyalite offers access to some great ski meadows. However as Jamie and I discovered today the snowpack is hollow and there is a lot of wind slab hidden by a few inches of powder. Turns were cetainly earned if not exactly shapely.

Mount Ellis

Submitted by pussboat on Thu, 12/27/2007 - 23:13

Mount Ellis is skiing ok. The snow pack is sketchy near the saddle with "whoomping" and collapsing. Once in the trees the snow was great but coverage was thin. You can ski to the car.

The Skiing Thread

Submitted by conrad on Sat, 12/22/2007 - 11:16

Greetings,

Many of us do more than just ice climb. We enjoy the wonderful Montana backcountry. I have started this skiing thread so that we can post notes on conditions (ie: is Ellis worthy?), recent descents, established up tracks and car-pooling opportunities. I trust my fellow climbers and the collective judgement on snowpack. Maybe this isn?t the right location ?
