This year, we include a forum for: Bitterroot Mountain Climbs, Finley Creek Drainage, and Mission Falls conditions; also the Rainbow Falls area near Plains, MT.
Hey everyone,
With the wet cold weather hitting Missoula early this season, a couple friends and I hiked up into Finley to check on the current conditions. Neither Weedeater nor Graineater were anywhere close to being in, although Graineater is certainly better off than Weedeater. No pictures because there were no pictures worth taking.
Checking on Finley conditions anyone been in there lately?
Thanks
Season's greetings! Does anybody know if Rainbow is in?
How is the Ice forming in Blodgett Canyon? Anyone know?
Hiked up Finley today 11/17 with Conor D. Just a couple inches of new snow on the ground, making the road a bit slippery in some sections and the trail quick for travel. Everything seems to be coming in pretty nicely so far. Ended up drytooling on Mule Palace for the most part, as things were thin enough in sections to make it worth the wait for us.
Hiked up to the falls yesterday (11/6/11).
This is what ya got:

Got about 4-6 inches of snow on the trail at the bottom of the falls also.

On Friday the 11th, Jselwyn and I hit up Finley. Starting from the beginning: Weedeater looks like it is about as much fun as it could be, nice and fat. Foxes Corner's top pitch is massive with tons of water flowing (great hero ice), bottom pitch has a smearing of ice and is flowing heavily. If it would get cold soon it could form up all the way down. The prize though is the Graineater. We haver never seen it so fat. In fact the belay cave was a squeeze to get into. It is a solid grade 4 right now with a nice steep second half to the second pitch.
