On the same day my brother and I went and climbed The Matriarch there was another group of motivated climbers considering the same line, Luke Evans and Axle ?? came down from Helena.
Instead they put up a new route that many folks have probably eyed this year, I know I had. It is the major dihedral that faces south towards all of the Cleo's wall climbs.
Luke made an impressive lead with a 30-40' run out (see photo) to get to the ice that hung like a temptress high on the wall:
I asked Luke about the line later and if I should post something for him...in his words:
Name: ISIS
rating: ?? he mentioned it being 5.8 on the run out section, looked like WI4 up high???
has so much variety splitter/slab face/chimney mixed. we rapped off a seemingly solid cobble with a 60m and 70m rope so probably about 200ft to the top may be better to rap the gullly off trees
Gear: ?? I believe he had pins, single set of cams, nuts, and a few screws, two ropes
Yet another glorious line for the Cleo's are....turning in to our own little trophy wall! Nice work fellas!
