Coming Into Town Looking For A Good Time

Hey Bozeman Natives, I'm sure some may not like this post and are protective of local info but I'm coming out with some friends for our annual boys ski trip which always includes an extra day for different adventure activities. I'm looking for some good info with some detail where we could do some top rope (because not all of us in the group are avid ice climbers, but all rock) ice climbing. We're looking for just a nice day out that won't require a ton of hiking in, only because we're planning on making some BC Ski turns in the day as well so putting a few tings together in the same day. So if any one could help out with where some climbs are how to get to them via car directions, and hiking in. Like I said I know a few people won't like this post but I'm always happy to help a visitor experience some of the good stuff my area has to offer when they go about it the right way and seems to be a person who will appreciate the info and take back some great stories from it, so any help would be greatly appreciated by all of us, we come together at least once in the winter to ski and once in the summer to climb rep-ing from Coast to Coast. With a short amount of time, Genesis is probably easiest to access for a quick half day of climbing. Get route info and driving directions in the route descriptions area of this site ([url]http://www.montanaice.com/genesis.shtml[/url]).

Multi-action days around Bozeman

Gary is right with Genesis being a good quick place to swing the tools but it is not the best place to combine with some turns. I'd look at ski touring in upper Flanders and climbing Code Red or Champagne Sherbert. Another option near Bozeman might be to ski tour to the top of Blackmore and hit the pow-pow in the pristine bowls above Twin Falls then take a lap on said climb or Cleopatra's Needle on the way out. Or, do as Alex Lowe once did and ski tour up Blackmore, around the south side of Palace Butte, and climb the route Reparations (or some other smaller flows near it). Otherwise, Pine Creek near Livingston might hold options. Overall, I'd say Cooke City is the place to be if you want to combine ski touring and climbing, although it might be tough to do much of both in the same day.
