North of the Border-Awesome Climb to the Left of Gibraltar

Submitted by pony on Sun, 02/25/2007 - 22:15
For those of you familiar with climbs that aren?t to far north of the border, I was up in Cannel Flats this weekend for my son?s league Hockey Tournament (which they won) and went into Gibraltar. It?s in pretty good condition and nobody was on it. Additionally, the climb just around the corner to the left of Gibraltar that is usually a mixed climb to some daggers when it is in, is at the moment, a relatively fat freestanding dead-nuts 5+/6- vertical pillar. I?ve never seen this climb in these condition before! So get on it while the getten?s good! Cheers, Pony

Hello All, If you are already registered on this web site or part of the SMCC mailing list you may have already received this notice. If so, please link to the survey through that email as it will help us track the results more effectively. For those of you not registered on Montana Ice, please take a few minutes to read on regarding our call to action in our efforts to futher understand ice climbing usage and access patterns for Hyalite Canyon. This survey replaces the 3-question snowmobile poll already posted on this site.

bad rock climbs

Submitted by icefarmer on Mon, 12/04/2006 - 21:04
The climbs in the canyon were coming in real nice, however somebody got anxious and jumped on the climbs a little too hard. Lets try to let the climbs come in totally so that we don't ruin it for ourself and the many others that use this area. If you need a place to climb, that is close, go to the heights (columbia mtn. trailhead).

The Gully(s)

So...it?s getting colder, wetter, and did I mention colder? I should be typing a paper on the pedagogical approach to language arts as craft, but all I can think of is the upcoming ice season. Right around this time is when I generally jump the gun and climb/bushwhack for hours and thousands of vertical for some wet ice that I never find or just simply give up on because it?s impossibly far away. I'm talking specifically about Mount Brown. Has anyone been up in the area, seen little blue streaks from the road, or am I about 2-3 weeks ahead of the curve.
