No ice in the southeast

I move out of Bozeman for grad school and it turns out to be an awesome ice year, go figure. The flip side, while there hasn't been enough ice to climb (NC has ice for a few days every winter!), the rock and the water is great. Tis the 2nd day of winter and I just paddled 7miles, and spent 3 days last weekend climbing at the Obed, TN. Heck, even the multipitch at Laruel Knob http://carolinaclimbers.org/cpg135/displayimage.php?album=71&pos=11 was good during the beginning of Dec. Thanks for all the updates, tis exciting to hear from afar what is happening.

Life Insurance for climbers?

An article on the front page of today's Chronicle, about the 3 guys they're looking for on Mount Hood, quoted Conrad as saying he pays $10K for rescue insurance. This reminded me of a problem I encountered trying to get a new life insurance policy last year; when I truthfully indicated that I do occasionally take overseas climbing trips, the offered rates came back about eight-fold what they would otherwise have been!

How about a new forum for "New Routes?" where info on new routes can be posted and archived in one place to serve as a psuedo-online guidebook. Just a thought...comments?

I dont know what anyone can do about it, but spam is turning this forum into a site for porn, viagra, or just general bs! While I do support all of the above mentioned it just seems sorta out of place, not to mention fuckin annoying. Something like 7 out of the 10 newest post are spam. Anyone else have something to say about it?

Rope advice

So here's my story. Winter 04/05 I picked up some Beal 9mm doubles (Verdon II?). I love the things, for their size they are pretty light, and as a first set of doubles they have proven themselves burly on ice and rock. Last night I was forced to cut about 10m off the end of one of them, from what looked like rock-fall damage to the core. So my question comes in as, do I chop the other one to match (at about 50m), or do I just replace the one cord, only to have them wear out at different times? Are 50m doubles going to be limiting in Hyalite?
