Ice Climbing Europe

I find myself living in Southern Germany for the year, and with no idea where to find decent ice on this continent. I hear vague rumors of the norway and the alps, but lack the funding and vehicle to track stuff down on my own. And my german is not yet up to following comprehensibly what is said in message boards here. I know that there are a few people with international climbing experiance on this site, and thought it might be worth a shot asking if anyone knows of good ice that can be accsessed without a car or sled in southern Germany...

Mods: feel free to move this to a different forum if it fits there better :) I know... I know... an ice festival in Portland, OR... are you kidding me? Well... I like to think that just because we don't have consistent ice out here doesn't mean we don't like climbing it. I wanted to extend the invitation to anyone interested...

So my 97 Subaru Outback (160,000mi) is going to need some major repair (tranny, cv joints and possibly head gasket). If you had to pick a low cost vehicle, say under $5000, what would you pick? Should have inexpensive insurance. I'm fine with a van, wagon, some SUVs. The vehicle doesn't need to be anything special. Dirt roads and some snow roads will be driven on. Cheers, Brad

This is from the article I wrote in the SMCC Newsletter: "I talked with Jose Castro, Bozeman District Ranger, prior to writing this article. He said that the GNF could be open to the construction of a ?warming hut? off the Hyalite trail if climbers thought it would be useful. He knows that these have been built successfully in Colorado and thought that if a volunteer organization (SMCC) wanted to fund, build and maintain it, the GNF may be agreeable.

Bill Dockins wrote:
SMCC Members, Your help is needed now to protect the future of rock climbing on Bozeman Pass. As many of you know, a large land conservation project involving over 2000 acres has been underway on the Pass for the past few years. The project will protect a critical wildlife corridor and provide new access points to public lands. The project will also directly benefit the climbing community. Many of you contacted the Montana Congressional delegation last year in support of this project.

http://www.issociate.de/board/post/312809/phpBB_mass-hack_being_prepare…] You just had this member register for your website. In order to keep it from possibly being hacked I'd suggest you ban him. I run a forum of my own and am trying to keep him from getting access. I don't want to see this place get hacked...great resource for all montana climbers!
