Sphinx

I was up on the Sphinx yesterday, October 8. Sad to report that there was no ice. There was actually even very little snow pasted to the face, and it was difficult to make out where the climbs started. There was about 10-15 feet of an ice blob in the cave at the crux of the Lowe route, but nothing flowing over the top. The second pitch was just a thin white line of snow. Perhaps this new weather will help. About 18" of snow on the plateau above the ice routes. We hiked to the pass in sneakers, should still be good hiking by next weekend unless we get ridiculous amounts of snow. I have a picture but the uploader told me it was too big (even though it's not).

Hi B. Thanks for the update on the Sphinx! Too bad there's not much up there yet. With the wierd weather conditions this fall ( straight from very warm to kinda cold, and early season switch) I am worried there will not get to be much up there. Pray for warm rains. Huh? the uploader didn't work for you? Are you sure the file wasn't too big? it has to be under 200K. I was able to upload this image:

I resized it again, hopefully this works. It was 196k before, now it's 192. Edit: Sorry, I know there is a way to make it smaller, but I'm i a bit of a hurry right now. I'll try again later. In the blown up pic it looks like more ice than it did in real life. It was mostly snow and rime pasted to the rock from the storm on Saturday.

yeah ,that does look a little dry. Lots of snow up there-- maybe some warm temps will get the juices flowing! thanks for the photo.

As long as its around by thanksgiving i'm happy. Hope to do some major climbing then.
