Skied in Beehive yesterday (May 8th)... The snow was good as was the skiing... http://www.montanaice.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=997 It looked like a fair bit of ice was forming on the beehive... Headed out to Beehive last weekend (4-18). Attempted the standard route; not too much ice yet. The first pitch was a good mix of frozen snow, rock and some ice. The beginning chimney on pitch 2 stopped us. Thin verglass on the right side with no protection. Here's a photo for those interested. [img]http://montanaice.com/forums/user_images/_MG_2549.jpg[/img]

Starts about 25' right of main Cottonmouth flow. Follow bolts over difficult rock bulge and angle left to thin ice finishing on "Dancing on a Chalkboard". Will be more drytooling in lean conditions. Climbed "Cotton Mouth" today. Parked where they stopped plowing (1/2 mile from trailhead). Bring snowshoes or skis, the last 1/2 mile was waste deep horizontal swimming. The climb in in fat although it's really brittle. [img]http://montanaice.com/forums/user_images/l_b6b0bbdcb5a5ecc303bef7253986…]

On tuesday Gregg and I left the Indian Creek trailhead south of Cameron and hiked into the Taylor-Hilgards. We hiked up the trail for about 3 miles and Gregg spotted a nice ice climb above and left of the trail in a prominent cliff. We crossed the creek and headed up a trench-like gully to the base in about 20 minutes from the trail (allow a little over 2 hours from the car). The climb consisted of 4 teirs and we climbed the route in two pitches. The first pitch was 45 meters of WI3 to a perfect belay cave on the left.

Dano, Mark and myself headed up Pine Creek on Wednesday and climbed both Vokables. Grosse was much smaller than I have seen it in the past and provided for slightly easier climbing. With the exception of the lower 1/3 of the route the ice was great. We then traversed over and climbed Klein which was in awesome shape.

One of the anchors at the top of green is bad. It will be replaced soon. If anyone has found other bad anchors on the other side of the hill (not hyalite) let me know and it will get fixed.

Is in good, and a great climb. Follow the trail to the one log bridge then follow an obvious trail to the left.

I headed up to Yellow Mule in the Gallatin Canyon on Tues. in hopes of a quick and easy solo and to check out a new area. Unfortunately, Yellow Mule is not in condition. The first step was climbable but thin and brittle. The thin pillar on the left of the second step was nothing more than a few icicles so I skirted around right and back left to have a look at the final step which had ice only about 1/2 of the way down, so I headed home. At least the view of the canyon was nice!

Hi friends. Just wanted to drop a note on an experience we had yesterday traveling back from pine creek. The last stretch of road just before hitting the pavement was drifted to the point that two vehicles in front of us were stuck in the drifted section which spanned probably 1/4 of a mile in distance. The vehicle I was in as well as a subaru behind us asked permission from a house at the corner before the drift to drive on her property to circumnavigate the drifted secton of forest service road. She hesitated, but granted us permission.
