Trevor and I went out to Sand Dune Falls this weekend, and the thing is huge, but in mank shape, very brittle, chandeliered, and just not good. When we were suiting up it made tow loud cracking sounds, we took that as a sign to jet. I think it needs to warm up a bit for it to be in better and safer shape. Bryan

has anyone ever hiked/skied in to climb calamity falls or sentinal falls on the west fork of rock creek? Do they even form ice falls? (The road is still closed in the winters, right?) Any info on this area would be appreciated...thanks a bunch! Happy climbing, katie

There is now a route log book for the Billings / Beartooth area ready for submittals and perusal. You can find it at Steepworld Climbing Gym located at 208 N. 13th Street in Billings (406-25CLIMB). A copy will also be down in Cody at Core Mountain Sports in a week or so.

Mark and I climbed Rock Creek Falls Jan. 4th and found the climb in nice condition. Hellroaring falls was still climbable...but a wet plastic thunker and in deteriorating conditions. The thin smear on the left is about gone. Nonetheless it was still a fun climb. -seth

Climbed Silver Falls on New Years Day. While it was 40+ degrees and sunny in Red Lodge, the road and trail in were well packed but very icy. The ice was of good quality and has not grown very much from Ari's photos from 11-27-2005.

On our way to Billings; Mark, Tom and Myself climbed [i]Fall Between [/i]in East Rosebud. We had a great afternoon and the route was in good condition despite the warm temps; however it was a touch wet. It currently seems to be on the soft side of WI3. Seth Timpano

I'm hiking to silver falls with the family on friday, december 23 and i want to climb! I have tools etc. but no rope. Will anyone be climbing up there who would let me hop on their rope for a turn? Thanks and happy climbing! -katie

I'm a little late making the post for this place, but the flow will have gotten only better since we were there. [img]http://montanaice.com/forums/user_images/2.jpg[/img] Rusty Willis and I climbed it in 3+ conditions with the tube fully enclosed. There is a short, but very hard, mixed line following an overhanging crack behind the left curtain. Spurs would be very nice for this awkward climbing. [b]East Rosebud Update:[/b] the snow is deeper than I ever saw it last year. Due to drifting we had to park at the boat launch. It looked like no one had been on the trail since the big week of snowfall. We broke trail and post-holed back to Spaghetti falls. The lower rambling ice approach to California Ice looked to be covered in snow but the main falls, as predicted, looks solid.
