April 3rd

The road is getting pretty nasty in spots, but people were still making it up. I think all of the free hanging portion of the Good Looking One has fallen since the previous report.

Who's fat and who isn't...

To all late season searchers: Ted Olsen, from Bellingham, and I, a former Bozemanite, spent an incredible few days up Hyalite. Here's what we've seen (I'd post pictures but am intimidated by doing it- look for them in the next couple days maybe). Granted, these are only the ones we've visited, a few comments on those we haven't. We had an excellent time, Hyalite! Cheers goes out to Ted, Mel, and Ken, for hangin' in there this last week. Flanders Bobo like- no first pitch, upper looks great Champ.

the road driving up to hyalite is more like riding in a boat that a car. fortunately we can still drive there though. if you are willing to give your shocks a real workout, driving is definelty still doable. went up to the dribbles area and found nice ice but poor avalanche conditions. each step on the first pitch were cracking and whomping while climbing. a look accross the valley to behind maid in the mist shows an avalanche spreading the entire way accross that bowl behind maid. on the descent down avalanche gully, a deadly avalanche ripped through right as we were about to rappell.

Route conditions in Hyalite are pretty darn good right now. We opted for a sunny afternoon on the Mummies and Scepter. However, many of the routes on unnamed wall also look great (e.g., Thrill is Gone, Good looking one, Come and get it). The Scepter, shown here, is fat as ever with excellent ice.
